The Institute for International Research (IIR), in partnership with the CGF Research Institute, is proud to announce the launch of Governance Week (in conjunction with COSECS™)  which will be held on 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 July 2012 at the Hyatt Regency, Johannesburg
IIR has a long history of running successful corporate governance events. Our Company Secretary Symposium (COSECS) has run for the past 21 years as well as Directors’ Duties which we have held for the past five years.

However, this year we have decided to bring all our governance events together to create a single event aimed at all directors, company secretaries, senior executives, compliance officers and other prescribed officers that are responsible for corporate governance.
This year’s event is not only aimed at the Company Secretary but also at prescribed officers.  As you are, hopefully, aware prescribed officers are now subject to the same standards of conduct, have the same duties and are subject to the same liabilities as a director under the 2008 Companies Act.

However, Governance Week has certain topics that are specifically designed for the Company Secretary:

  • The changing role of the company secretary (not just SA)
  • How to conduct a successful annual general meetings and board meetings
  • A step-by-step approach to inducting directors
  • Mini-workshop:  ensuring effective integrated reporting in your organisation
  • The new governance aspects of the Companies Act and King III
  • Looking at governance within a political environment
  • Looking at effective methods and approaches to conducting electronic board meetings
  • And many more > Click here to visit the Governance Week website

Some of the confirmed speakers on the programme:

  • Pierre Kok, Deputy Director: Corporate Governance, Shareholder Unit, City of Johannesburg
  • Darion Barclay, Chief Director: Strategic and Operational Support, Office of the Premier
  • Mmototho Lepadi, Group Company Secretary, Telkom
  • Carina Wessels, Group Company Secretary, Exxaro

And this conference would not be a governance event without the pioneers of corporate governance:

  • Prof Mervyn E King SC
  • Terry Booysen, Chief Executive Officer, CGF Research Institute
  • Michael Judin, Partner, Goldman Judin Inc
  • Clem Sunter
